Swarm, 2014
Butterfly migrations passing through my garden inspired the body of work Swarm. By melding hand-cut polypropylene with duct tape of pop culture and fashion I create vibrant, animated compositions. Ironically, as strong in sensibility and resilient the cut vellum is on its own, this marriage of materials renders it more fragile. Like the brilliantly colored butterflies in the garden, it has become still more ephemeral.
Individual works in Swarm bear titles alluding to kinds of butterflies. Together they tell a story of life on the move.
